San Mateo County

Vision Alignment Statement Policy

1. Introduction

Overview

This policy outlines the addition of a statement of alignment to the Board adopted Shared Vision 2010 with 10 broad commitments to improve the quality of life in San Mateo County over the next decade with 25 goals to measure progress made achieving that vision. Board reports currently require background information and a fiscal impact statement.

Background

Upon the completion of a series of Board workshops that resulted in the framework of people, place, prosperity and partnerships, the Board conducted a series of community forums throughout the county asking residents: What will the county be like in 2010? And What do we want it to look like? Residents were also encouraged to provide comments on-line over a six-month period. Small focused groups to prioritize and refine the 10 commitments and 25 goals, as well as set measures to track progress being made achieving the vision over the next ten years followed this inclusive community dialogue.

Alignment

Over the next ten years actions small and large, by individuals, groups and by county government will be required to realize the vision. A vision alignment statement shall be included in all Board Reports.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure Board actions are consistent with the community developed vision and if not, a statement explaining why not.
