RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 40 CLEAN WATER, CLEAN AIR, SAFE NEIGHBORHOOD PARKS AND COASTAL PROTECTION BOND ACT OF 2002

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, California's state, regional, city and county parks serve as recreational, social and cultural centers for California's communities, providing important venues for enrichment and safety of young and old, alike; provide a sense of community; protect natural resources, enhance cultural and restore historic sites, preserve open space and important farmland;

 

WHEREAS, Proposition 40 would authorize up to $2.6 billion in general obligation bonds: $1,275 billion to finance land, air and water conservation, including improvements to water quality and supply, including improving the safety of drinking water, flood control, water quality and reliability; $1,057.5 billion for park and recreation including purchase of beaches, recreational areas, habitats and open space; and $267.5 million for historical and cultural preservation;

 

WHEREAS, Proposition 40 authorizes local assistance grants of $372.5 million allocated on the basis of population for the acquisition and development of neighborhood, community and regional parks;

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors join the San Mateo County Park and Recreation Commission in support of voter approval of Proposition 40, the Clean Water, Air, Safe Neighborhood Parks and Coastal Protection Act of 2002, at the March 5, 2002 statewide primary election to authorize $2.6 billion in clean water, air and parks and open space necessary to preserve California's quality of life, keep California's business community competitive with the ability to attract and retain industry.
