RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 42 TRANSPORTATION CONGESTION IMPROVEMENT ACT

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, currently the State of California imposes two types of taxes on gas and diesel fuel: an excise tax of 18 cents on each gallon gasoline and diesel fuel; and a sales tax on the sale of gasoline and diesel fuel; approximately $3 billion in excise tax revenue is currently dedicated to transportation improvements; yet only a small portion of sales tax on gas is used for transit purposes;;

 

WHEREAS, Proposition 42 would over a five-year period ensure the sales tax on gas and diesel fuel would be allocated to state and local streets, roads, highway and mass transportation projects critical to support and sustain the economic vitality of California;

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors support voter approval of Proposition 42 the Transportation Congestion Improvement Act to allocate the existing sales tax on gasoline to transportation projects.
