RESOLUTION APPROVING FY 2001-02 STATE LAW ENFORCEMENT SUPPLEMENTAL FUND SPENDING PLANS FOR THE SHERIFF'S OFFICE AND DISTRICT ATTORNEY'S OFFICE, AS REQUIRED UNDER SB736

______________________________________________________________

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, Senate Bill 736, chaptered in November, 2001, modified Government Code §30061 to require submission and board approval of spending plans for all four components of State Law Enforcement Supplemental Fund (SLESF) funding, in contrast with previous legislation, which only required approval of spending plans for two of the four components; and

WHEREAS, in order to allocate the SLEFS funding, the new legislation requires this board's approval of annual spending plans for the two components of the funding for which board approval was not previously required, i.e., the District Attorney's allocation for criminal prosecution and the Sheriff's allocation for jail operations, which spending plans this Board wishes to approve, and

WHEREAS, the District Attorney's FY 2001-02 criminal prosecution spending plan utilizes $247,783 in SLESF funds to finance the cost of one Deputy District Attorney and one District Attorney Inspector, and related support costs; and

WHEREAS, the Sheriff's FY 2001-02 jail operations spending plan utilizes $247,783 in SLESF funds to finance the cost of three Deputies and certain operating expenses of the Sheriff's Honor Camp in La Honda; and

WHEREAS, the above-referenced spending plans and SLESF funds are incorporated within the County's adopted FY 2001-02 budget;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT: the FY 2001-02 SLESF Spending Plans for the Sheriff and District Attorney, pursuant to Government Code Sections 30061 (b) (1) and (2), are hereby approved by this Board of Supervisors, and said approval shall be communicated to the Controllers Office.
