RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING AWARD OF $10,000 FOR THE MARYELIZABETH GRIFFIN ANNUAL CHILDREN'S AWARD FOR THE ADVANCEMENT OF THE INTERESTS OF CHILDREN FOR 2002, DIRECTING THE COUNTY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AMENDMENTS TO THE AGREEMENT WITH THE PENINSULA COMMUNITY FOUNDATION, AUTHORIZING $25,000 FOR THE MARY ELIZABETH GRIFFIN ANNUAL CHILDREN'S AWARD FOR FUTURE YEARS, AND AUTHORIZING THE COUNTY MANAGER TO NEGOTIATE AN AGREEMENT WITH THE CHILD CARE COORDINATING COUNCIL, OR ANOTHER APPROPRIATE NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATION, TO ADMINISTER THE AWARD COMMENCING IN 2003

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, on November 28, 2000, this Board, by Resolution No. 64094, established the Mary Elizabeth Griffin Annual Children's Award, to be given annually to a person providing exemplary service to the children of San Mateo County; and

WHEREAS, on or about December 19, 2000, pursuant to Resolution No. 64148, this Board entered into an agreement with the Peninsula Community Foundation for the creation and maintenance of a fund for the advancement of the interests of children, and contributed the sum of $10,000 as an initial contribution to the fund; and

WHEREAS, on June 5, 2001, this Board adopted Resolution No. 64484, providing that the administration of the Mary Elizabeth Griffin Annual Children's Award shall be accomplished through the Recognition and Awards Program, administered through the Peninsula Community Foundation and Peninsula Partnership Council; and

WHEREAS, Resolution No. 64148, authorizing the agreement with the Peninsula Community Foundation, also provides the County Manager with the authority to execute future amendments to the agreement on behalf of the County of San Mateo; and

WHEREAS, this Board desires to amend the agreement so to provide for an award in the amount of $10,000 to the recipient of the Mary Elizabeth Griffin Annual Children's Award to be given at the Foundation sponsored Recognition and Awards Ceremony scheduled for late February 2002; and

WHEREAS, the Board also wishes to provide funding in the amount of $25,000 for future awards, in an annual amount of $2,500 to be administered by the Child Care Coordinating Council;

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the County Manager is hereby authorized and directed to negotiate amendments to the agreement with the Peninsula Community Foundation to provide for payment of the sum of $10,000 to the recipient of the Mary Elizabeth Griffin Annual Children's Award for 2002, and to provide for the disposition of remaining funds held by the Peninsula Community Foundation for the Mary Elizabeth Griffin Award;

IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED AND ORDERED that the sum of $2,500 be set aside from General Fund Non-Departmental Reserves for implementation of the Mary Elizabeth Griffin Annual Children's Award beginning in 2003, to be awarded in an annual amount of $2,500;

IT IS FURTHER RESOLVED AND ORDERED that the County Manager is hereby authorized and directed to negotiate an agreement with the Child Care Coordinating Council, or another appropriate non-profit organization, to administer the Mary Elizabeth Griffin Award beginning in the year 2003.
