Resolution Increasing the Transportation Allowance

Recommendation
Repeal Resolution 64205 and amend Resolution 63358 to increase the transportation allowance for the Board of Supervisors, elected officials, department heads and designated management personnel.

Discussion
A transportation allowance in lieu of mileage reimbursement has long been included as part of the benefit package for the Board of Supervisors, elected officials, department heads, and certain management employees designated by the County Manager. This fixed amount is provided in lieu of reimbursement for transportation expenses for travel on the Peninsula. The maximum amount currently is $280.00 bi-weekly as authorized on January 30, 2001 by Resolution 64205.

Summary
The Internal Revenue Services has increased the amount payable for reimbursement for employee mileage effective January 1, 2002. This resolution would similarly increase the flat rate transportation allowance to a maximum amount of $300 bi-weekly effective January 6, 2002.
