Recommended Revision to the Salary Ordinance

Recommendation

Adopt an ordinance amending the salary ordinance and accept the report on the total number of positions in the County.

Summary

The salary ordinance changes herein represent:

· reclassifying thirteen positions.

These actions were approved by the County Manager's Office.

The reclassification actions represent a monthly salary and benefit cost of $829 or an annual cost of $9948.

This amendment has been reviewed by the County Counsel's Office.

ORGANIZATION 30000 SHERIFF'S OFFICE

Action:

Reclassify: One position of E461, Lead Payroll/Personnel Services Specialist

Biweekly Salary: $1489.60 - 1861.60

Approximate Monthly Salary: $3228 - 4034

To: One position of E462, Payroll/Personnel Services Supervisor

Biweekly Salary: $1526.40 - 1908.00

Approximate Monthly Salary: $3307 - 4134

Explanation:

This is the upward reclassification of one existing filled Lead Payroll/Personnel Services Specialist to the classification of Payroll/Personnel Services Supervisor. The duties of this classification have evolved in the department to include full supervision of the payroll unit as well as providing research and related support to management. The new classification of Payroll/Personnel Services Supervisor more accurately reflects the duties of the position. This action represents a monthly salary and benefits cost of $130 based on filling the position at the top step in the range. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.

Approximate Monthly Salary: $5240 - 6551

Explanation:

This is a downward reclassification of one existing vacant position of Information Technology Manager to Information Technology Analyst. The management duties of this position have been assumed by other IT staff in the unit and this position is now needed to provide technical network and data support. These duties are more appropriately described by the Information Technology Analyst classification. The action represents a monthly salary and benefits savings of $1041 based on filling the position at the top step of the range. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.

Reclassify: One position of K008, Circulation Supervisor

Biweekly Salary: $1591.20 - 1988.80

To: One position of K009S, Library Assistant series

Biweekly Salary: $1230.40 - 1626.40

Approximate Monthly Salary: $2666 - 3524

Explanation:

This is a downward reclassification of one existing vacant position of Circulation Supervisor to the Library Assistant series. The supervisory duties of this position have been assumed by other library staff at the Pacifica branch and this position is now needed to provide general patron support. These duties are more appropriately described by the Library Assistant classification series. The action represents a monthly salary and benefits savings of $1020 based on filling the position at the top step of the range. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.

Reclassify: Eight positions of F077, Medical Services Assistant

Biweekly Salary: $1017.60 - 1272.00

Approximate Monthly Salary: $2205 - 2756

To: Eight positions of T075, Custodian

Biweekly Salary: $1111.20 - 1388.80

Approximate Monthly Salary: $2408 - 3009

Explanation:

This is the upward reclassification of eight filled positions of Medical Services Assistant I to the classification of Custodian. This action is a part of the continuing effort by Hospital management to reduce costs and improve efficiencies. This action is as the result of transferring eight MSA staff to Housekeeping to supplement the custodial staff. The duties currently performed by these eight staff will carried out by other staff and the transfer will permit the Hospital to reduce eight extra help custodial staff. This action represents a monthly salary and benefits cost of $2631 based on filling the position at the top step in the range although this increase is more than offset by savings as a result of eliminating the eight extra help staff. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.
