FROM: |

SUBJECT: |
Amendment to the Agreement with the State of California Department of Health Services to Conduct a California Safe Communities Injury Prevention Project |
Recommendation |
Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to execute an amendment to the agreement with State of California Department of Health Services to conduct a California Safe Communities Injury Prevention Project. |
Background |
In May 2000 your Board approved a resolution authorizing the execution of an agreement with the California Department of Health Services to conduct a California Safe Communities Injury Prevention Project. The term of that agreement was February 1, 2000 through June 30, 2001. The total amount of the grant was $40,000. |
In April 2001 you approved a contract amendment extending this grant through September 30, 2001 and modifying the budgets for FY2000-01 and FY 2001-02. The total contract amount, however, remained unchanged. As amended, the budget for FY 2000-01 was $16,317.69 and the budget for FY 2001-02 was $7,075.00. |
Discussion |
The work of the contract was planned for completion by a contractor in FY 2000-01. The contractor delayed completion and the project was transferred to a second contractor, who provided an acceptable work product. Due to the change in contractors, the schedule was extended into FY 2001-02. |
The Department of Health Services has agreed to modify the fiscal year budgets in the contract, so that the funds unexpended in FY 2000-01, $14,507.91 could be rolled over into the current fiscal year. This will make the total grant amount for FY 2001-02 $21,582.91. |
All work under this contract has been completed. |
Vision Alignment |
The contract with the Department of Health Services keeps the commitment of Ensuring Basic Health and Safety for All and goal number 6: Children grow up healthy in safe and supportive homes and neighborhoods. The contract contributes to this commitment and goal since the grant project collected and analyzed injury data from vehicle accidents in San Mateo County that will be used to establish specific strategies for injury prevention. |
Fiscal Impact |
The term of the contract remains February 1, 2000 through September 30, 2001. The amendment increases the grant budget for FY 2001-02 by $14,079.91. The 2001-02 approved budget includes these planned expenditures and revenue. There is no net county cost to this contract. |
