FROM:

Neil R. Cullen, Director of Public Works

SUBJECT:

Slurry Sealing of Various Streets - Burlingame Hills, Palomar Park, San Mateo Highlands, Sequoia Tract, and West Menlo Park (County Project No. R7K00 - F36 [302A])

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution adopting Plans and Specifications, determining prevailing wage scales, and calling for sealed proposals for the Slurry Sealing of Various Streets within the areas of Burlingame Hills, Palomar Park, San Mateo Highlands, Sequoia Tract, and West Menlo Park.

Key Facts

The proposed slurry seal project is part of our overall pavement management program to maintain and improve the quality of the County maintained road system.

Discussion

The proposed project, totaling approximately 4.11 miles in length, consists of the repair of failed pavement areas, the slurry sealing (an application of sand and asphaltic emulsion) of the roadways, and the installation of pavement markings and legends. The roads to be slurry sealed are shown on the attached maps as Exhibit "A", and include:

Burlingame Hills -

Alturas Drive, Adeline Drive, Fey Drive, Hillside Lane, La Loma Lane, La Mesa Drive, Los Montes Drive, Tulip Court, Valdeflores Drive, and Vista Lane

Palomar Park -

Hubbard Avenue and Brecon Court

San Mateo Highlands -

Cowpens Way, Hood's Point Way, Kings Lane, Laurie Lane, Lundys Lane, Oriskany Drive, and Queens Lane

Sequoia Tract -

Country Lane, Himmel Avenue, Doherty Way, Nimitz Avenue, and San Carlos Avenue

West Menlo Park -

Cloud Avenue and Harrison Way

This project qualifies for a Categorical Exemption pursuant to Section 15301.C of the Public Resources Code (California Environmental Quality Act [CEQA]), and a Notice of Exemption has been filed with the County Clerk Recorder as provided by County guidelines.

Vision Alignment

We believe our recommendation is consistent with the Shared Commitment to "Ensure Basic Health and Safety for All" and Goal Number 7 "Maintain and Enhance the Public Safety of All Residents and Visitors," as the project maintains the road's wearable surface for the public's safety.

Fiscal Impact

The estimated cost of construction is $100,000, which is proposed to be financed with Road Funds. There is no impact to the General Fund.

A form of resolution has been approved by County Counsel.
