Mary Jo has worked for the County for almost 30 years. As a Public Health Nurse she is on-site at the Futures/Bayshore Family Resource Center in Daly City where she assists students with the full range of medical needs. For instance, she conducts vision and hearing screenings, attention deficit disorder evaluations, and immunizations. She schedules follow-up doctor visits as appropriate. She teaches parents and students how to access the healthcare system and how to use its resources, such as Medical, CHDP or the Healthy Families programs. Mary Jo was nominated by two colleagues, Edith Renderos and Ivy Mok. They credit Mary Jo with getting the "Tooth Mobile" services to the Bayshore School District. The "Tooth Mobile" is a 40-foot Winnebago equipped with up-to-date dental technology that travels to schools throughout Northern California providing free dental care work for students with no insurance for dental care. The Tooth Mobile is fully equipped with dental chair, x-ray machines and a laboratory. Mary Jo has gone above and beyond to secure funding to provide the needed dental care for children of this community. Approximately $65,000 was raised from grant and foundation money to fund a second visit to the Bayshore Family Resource Center. With these funds, the dentist and hi staff were able to conduct check-ups, fill cavities, and perform root canals. Credit goes to Mary Jo for bringing this invaluable resource to the community. Our County is fortunate to have Mary Jo Cheyrias as one of its outstanding employees. |
