Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Neil R. Cullen, Director of Public Works

SUBJECT:

The Resurfacing of Various Streets in the Polhemus Road Area (Project No. R8R01, F-36[71F])

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution adopting plans and specifications, determining prevailing wage scales, and calling for sealed proposals for the Resurfacing of Various Streets in the Polhemus Road area.

Key Facts

The proposed project is part of our overall program to preserve the County maintained road system.

Discussion

The proposed project, totaling approximately 2.9 miles in length, consists of pavement repair work, installation of pavement reinforcing fabric, and resurfacing of Randall Road between Parrott Drive and the City limits of the City of San Mateo, Bel Aire Road between Laurie Lane and Ascension Drive, Newport Street, Sheraton Place, Tarrytown Street, Laurel Hill Drive, Laurel Hill Court, Enchanted Way, Rainbow Drive, Seneca Lane, West Point Place and Crown Court as shown on the attached drawing.

The San Mateo County Planning Department has determined that this project is exempt from the requirements for preparation of an EIR under Section 15301, Class 1, of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and we have filed a Notice of Exemption with the County Clerk.

Vision Alignment

We believe our recommendation is consistent with the Shared Commitment to "Ensure basic health and safety for all" and Goal Number 7, "Maintain and enhance public safety of all residents and visitors," as it will improve the conditions of the road surface and provide safe passage through the residential neighborhoods.

Fiscal Impact

The estimated cost of construction is $565,000. We are proposing to finance the work with Road Funds that were appropriated in the 2001/02 fiscal year.

There is no impact to the General Fund.

A form of resolution has been approved by County Counsel.
