RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE SHERIFF'S BOOKING FEE FOR FY 2002-03

TO BE ESTABLISHED AT $192.00

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, Counties are granted the authority to impose fees for the booking of inmates into County detention facilities, and San Mateo County has historically imposed said booking fees on an annual basis; and

WHEREAS, a joint city/county committee met and agreed upon the basic booking fee rates and calculation methodology used in determination of the booking fee; and

WHEREAS, the Board of Supervisors originally adopted a booking fee for FY 1994-95 in the amount of $159 which has been periodically adjusted to the current fee of $183; and

WHEREAS, booking fees have been calculated on the basis of based a cost study that the Sheriff's Office completed in 1999, the methodology of which has been determined to be true, accurate, and in conformance with applicable requirements; and

WHEREAS, after the computation based on the 1999 study, booking fees have been adjusted annually based on the increase in the cost of labor; and

WHEREAS, the booking fee for FY 2002-03 is based on the formula developed in 1990-2000, Except that it includes a 5% cost increase over the fee approved for 2001-2002, which reflects the increased cost of labor, and all participating agencies have previously been advised of same; and

WHEREAS, the Sheriff's Office has complied with the applicable notice requirements for increasing the booking fee; and

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED THAT:
The FY 2002-03 Sheriff's Booking fee be established at $192.00 effective for the period of July 1, 2002, through June 30, 2003.
