RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF S. 1533 (Kennedy) HEALTH CARE SAFETY NET AMENDMENTS ACT OF 2001

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, local communities are the safety net provider of health care to an estimated 42 million Americans, the majority of whom are children;

 

WHEREAS, the Community Access Program (CAP) was established by the federal government in 1999 to expand health care access for the uninsured by increasing the effectiveness and capacity of the nation's health care safety net at the community level;

 

WHEREAS, the Health Resources Services Administration granted San Mateo County General Hospital $897,773 in a CAP grant to expand affordable health insurance options for families and by accelerating enrollment of uninsured children eligible for Medicaid and the Children's Health Insurance Program, the Healthy Families program in California;

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors supports the enactment of S. 1533 (Kennedy) the "Health Care Safety Net Amendments Act of 2001" to continue funding the Community Access Program as part of the Health Care Safety Net Improvement Act to improve access to healthcare.
