DATE:

BOARD MEETING DATE:

05/21/2002

TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Luther Perry, Director Information Services

SUBJECT:

Presentation of the New County Website.

Recommendation

Approve the look and feel of the new County Website.

Background

At their July 17, 2001, meeting the Executive Council approved formation of a Web Management Committee comprised of five department heads and the County Manager's Office. The Committee was tasked to oversee the creation and design of a common Countywide "look and feel" for the County Web site. The Committee will also play a role in identifying and resolving other major policy and governance issues encountered during development of the new Web site. The Committee members are:

Maureen Borland, Human Services Administrator
Loren Budress, Chief Probation Officer
Lee Buffington, Tax Collector-Treasurer
Tom Casey, County Counsel
Reyna Farrales, Deputy County Manager
Luther Perry, Information Services Director

Discussion

A request for proposals for development of three "look and feel" design sets was issued in October 2001, and Cuesta Technologies of Redwood City was awarded a contract in November 2001 to work with County staff to create and present these design sets to the Committee. The Committee requested, then reviewed and approved a composite final design for consideration by the Executive Council.

Many thanks to the Web Management Committee Members!

The Executive Council approved this design set as recommended. Information Services has deployed this "look and feel" in development of the new Web site, including conversion of the present County Web site to the new format.

Vision Alignment

Adoption of the new County Web site standards, of which this recommendation is a part, will contribute to all of the County's Visioning goals by simplifying public access to services via the Internet. Important elements include greatly improved human-factors design in the "look and feel" and navigation by service and subject rather than by agency and department.

Fiscal Impact

The approved eGov budget includes the new "look and feel" design work and conversion of the present County Web site. There is no new fiscal impact.
