COUNTY OF SAN MATEO

Inter-Departmental Correspondence

Department of Public Works

DATE:

April 30, 2002

BOARD MEETING DATE:

May 21, 2002

TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Neil R. Cullen, Director of Public Works

SUBJECT:

Additions to or Exclusions from the County Maintained Road System

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution certifying the mileage of County maintained roads.

Key Fact

Section 2121 of the Streets and Highways Code requires counties to report to the State in May of each year, the total mileage of their maintained road system.

Discussion

The total County maintained mileage reported to Caltrans last year was 316.57 miles. The proposed total County maintained mileage to be reported to Caltrans this year is 316.73miles. The net change in mileage is due to the acceptance of two roads into the County maintained road system and the adjustment of mileage to an existing maintained road.

Vision Alignment

We believe that our recommendation is consistent with the Shared Commitment to be a responsive, effective and collaborative government as providing this information to the State helps the State in the allocation of gas tax revenues back to the local agencies in a timely and cost efficient manner.

Fiscal Impact

There is no fiscal impact to the County as a result of this report.

A form of resolution has been approved by County Counsel.
