Appointment of Robert Foucrault to Position of Coroner for the Balance of the Term Ending January 6, 2003.

Recommendation

Adopt Resolution Appointing Robert J. Foucrault to the position of Coroner for the balance of the term ending January 6, 2003.

Background

On April 10, 2001, Adrian C. ABud@ Moorman, Coroner, died. Mr. Moorman served as Coroner for ten years and his passing was mourned by the County. His death created a vacancy in the position for which term ends January 6, 2003. On March 5, 2002, Robert J. Foucrault successfully ran for the position of Coroner and will take office on January 6, 2003.

Discussion

Robert Foucrault has been with the Coroner=s office since 1992, serving as a forensic autopsy technician and later as a Coroner investigator. In 1998, he was promoted to Chief Deputy Coroner. Since the death of Mr. Moorman, Mr Foucrault has been responsible for the day to day management of the Coroner=s office. Mr. Foucrault has done an excellent job and the March election confirmed that voters of San Mateo County have utmost confidence that he will continue to do so.

This resolution furthers the County=s commitment that government decisions are based on careful consideration of future impact, rather than temporary relief or immediate gain.
