DATE:

June 3, 2002

BOARD MEETING DATE:

June 18, 2002

TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Margaret Taylor, Director of Health Services

Barbara Pletz, EMS Administrator

SUBJECT:

Amendment to the Agreement with the State Emergency Medical Services Authority to continue the San Mateo County High School CPR Education and Training Project.

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to execute an amendment to the Agreement with State Emergency Medical Services Authority to continue the San Mateo County High School CPR Education and Training Project.

Background

On November 14, 2000 your Board approved an agreement with the State Emergency Medical Services Authority to implement the San Mateo County High School CPR Education and Training project. During the first year of this project all freshmen at four Sequoia Union High School District schools were trained in CPR. On November 6, 2001 your Board approved a second year of funding to continue to train freshmen at the four existing high schools and to add Menlo-Atherton High School to the project.

Discussion

Due to the complexity of school schedules it was not possible to complete the training by June 30, 2002. The Agreement is being extended through December 31, 2002.

Vision Alignment

The contract with the State Emergency Medical Services Authority keeps the commitment of Partnerships and goal number 24: Residents accept individual responsibility for contributing to the quality life of the County as a whole. This agreement does this by providing the CPR training to adolescents to possibly save a life.

Fiscal Impact

The term of this agreement has been amended to July 1, 2001 through December 31, 2002. The total amount of the agreement, $45,000, remains the same.
