BOARD MEETING DATE:

June 25, 2002

TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Neil R. Cullen, Director of Public Works

SUBJECT:

Reconstruction of Santiago Avenue and a Portion of Milton Street - Sequoia Tract Area (Project No. R7E01, F-149[5UC])

Recommendation

Adopt a Resolution adopting Plans and Specifications, determining prevailing wage scales, and calling for sealed proposals for the reconstruction of Santiago Avenue and a portion of Milton Street.

Previous Board Action

Adopted resolutions establishing minimum road standards and a priority list for road improvements in the Sequoia Tract Area.

Key Facts

The proposed project includes roads listed on the priority list approved by your Board and constructs minimum improvements as adopted for the Sequoia Tract area.

Discussion

The proposed project, totaling approximately 0.35 miles in length, consists of the reconstruction of Santiago Avenue between Woodside Road and Idyllwild Avenue, and Milton Street between Sequoia Avenue and Santa Clara Avenue. It also includes the resurfacing of a portion of Milton Street, and the resurfacing and slurry sealing of a portion of Santiago Avenue that were previously improved.

The San Mateo County Planning Department has determined that this project is exempt from the requirements for preparation of an EIR under Section 15301, Class 1, of the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and we have filed a Notice of Exemption with the County Clerk.

Vision Alignment

We believe our recommendation is consistent with the Shared Commitment to "ensure basic health and safety for all" and Goal Number 7, "maintain and enhance public safety of all residents and visitors," as it will improve the conditions of the road surface for the benefit of the public.

Fiscal Impact

The estimated cost of construction is $337,000, and Road Funds have been budgeted to finance this work. There is no impact to the General Fund.

A form of resolution has been approved by County Counsel.
