Honorable Board of Supervisors |
FROM: |
Neil R. Cullen, Director of Public Works |
SUBJECT: |
The Reconstruction of a Portion of Camp Pomponio Road (Honor Camp Road) - La Honda Area (County Project No. X2500 - F36 [312A]) |
Recommendation |
Adopt a resolution adopting Plans and Specifications, determining prevailing wage scales, and calling for sealed proposals for the reconstruction of a portion of Camp Pomponio Road. |
Key Facts |
Camp Pomponio Road is the only public access to the Sheriff's Honor Camp facility and improvements are needed to maintain the road's surface. |
Discussion |
Your Board authorized an appropriation of Half Cent Transportation Funds to maintain this access to the Sheriff's Honor Camp. We met with the Honor Camp staff and evaluated which portions of the road could be improved given the relative low volume of traffic that uses this road, the limited amount of Half Cent funds available to the County and the competing needs for the Half Cent funds. We are recommending, with the concurrence of the Sheriff, that we improve approximately 1 mile of road by pulverizing the existing roadway, mixing cement with the pulverized roadway materials, and then grading and compacting the material followed by an overlay of asphalt concrete pavement. The portion of the road to be reconstructed is shown on the attached map as Exhibit "A". |
This project qualifies for a Categorical Exemption pursuant to Section 15301.C of the Public Resources Code (California Environmental Quality Act [CEQA]), and a Notice of Exemption has been filed with the County Clerk Recorder as provided by County guidelines. |
Vision Alignment |
We believe our recommendation is consistent with the Shared Commitment to "ensure basic health and safety for all" and Goal Number 7 "maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors," as the proposed project improves access to a County facility for both staff and the public. |
Fiscal Impact |
The estimated cost of construction is $250,000, which is proposed to be financed with Half Cent Transportation Funds that were appropriated for this work. There is no impact to the General Fund. |
A form of resolution has been approved by County Counsel. |
