RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF S. 2535 (BOXER) RELATING TO THE CREATION OF THE CALIFORNIA WILD HERITAGE WILDERNESS ACT OF 2002

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, many areas and river segments in California offer unparalleled beauty and critical habitat for wild life including salmon and steelhead;

 

WHEREAS, these areas and river segments are not currently protected by a wilderness designation and as a result are at risk of losing their wild-land character;

 

WHEREAS, Senator Barbara Boxer of California has introduced S. 2535, the California Wild Heritage Wilderness Act of 2002, which, if enacted in its current form, would protect more than 2.4 million acres of land in 75 areas and 21 wild rivers throughout California;

WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo has a commitment to preserve and provide people access to our natural environment and a goal to support the goal of fixing the boundary between open space and development to protect the quality of the natural environment; and

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports S. 2535 (Boxer) and urges its passage by Congress and its signature by the President.
