1. |
Approve a resolution committing a maximum of $2.7 million a year to the Children's Health Initiative (CHI), Healthy Kids project, for five years. |
|
|
2. |
Accept the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the members of the CHI Coalition. |
|
Background |
In August, you took several actions that established the Children's Health Initiative, Healthy Kids Project. During the final budget hearings, you approved a maximum county contribution of $2.7 million a year for five years that would match all dollars raised from sources other than from the First Five Commission (formerly Children and Families First Commission).
Since that time, the Sequoia Health Care District Board has approved an annual contribution of $1.35 million to serve uninsured children in its catchment area. The Peninsula Health Care District Board will consider a similar request for $920,000 at its meeting on October 24, 2002. In addition, three proposals have been submitted to foundations for another $900,000 in the first year.
These entities have requested a resolution from the Board, documenting your commitment to this project, and confirming the role of the Coalition. The Coalition members have signed a Memorandum of Understanding, committing their own time and resources to this project.
This resolution will confirm both of these actions. |
|
Vision Alignment |
The Children's Health Initiative funding commitment and Memorandum of Understanding keep to the commitment of Ensuring Basic Health and Safety for All and goal number 5: Residential have access to health care and preventive care. The Coalition and funding commitment contributes to this goal by providing universal health care coverage to children 0-18 who live in households with annual incomes below 400% FPL. |
|
Fiscal Impact |
Approval of this resolution has no impact on the County General Fund. Support for the Children's Health Initiative, Healthy Kids Project, will come from the solid waste fund. |
