RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF H.R. 4058 (LOFGREN) RELATING TO THE MILITARY STANDARDS FOR AIRPORT SECURITY SCREENERS ACT |

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that |

WHEREAS, the U.S. Aviation Transportation Security Act requires that all airport security personnel be American citizens; |
|
WHEREAS, such a requirement would result in the loss of jobs for approximately 900 San Francisco International Airport security screeners that possess only permanent resident status; |
|
WHEREAS, Congressmember Lofgren has introduced H.R. 4058, which, if enacted in its current form, would create parity between the immigration status requirements for employment as an airport security screener and the immigration status required for service in the Armed Forces; |
|
WHEREAS, the County has a commitment to realize the potential of our diverse population and ensure basic health and safety for all and to support the goal to foster strong communities through diversity and to maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors; and |
|
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports H.R. 4058 (Lofgren) and urges its passage by Congress and its signature by the President. |
