RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF S. 2630 (INOUYE) AND H.R. 4904 (FILNER) RELATING TO THE HEALTH CARE FOR FILIPINO WORLD WAR II VETERANS ACT

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, the United States called into service Filipino military personnel during World War II for the purpose of military action at the direction of American officers;

 

WHEREAS, the United States enacted the Supplemental Surplus Appropriation Rescission Act of 1946, which denied and continues to deny Filipino World War II veterans benefits granted to other veterans including American World War II veterans who served on behalf of the United States;

 

WHEREAS, Congressmember Filner has introduced H.R. 4904 and Senator Inouye has introduced S. 2630, which, if enacted in their current forms, would provide a variety of health care and medical benefits to Filipino World War II veterans that are now U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents residing in the United States;

 

WHEREAS, the County has a commitment to realize the potential of our diverse population and ensure basic health and safety for all and to foster strong communities through diversity and to ensure access to health care and preventative care; and

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports H.R. 4904 (Filner) and S. 2630 (Inouye) and urges their passage by Congress and signature by the President.
