RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF H.R. 2144 (WOOLSEY, D-CA) REGARDING THE SUDDEN OAK DEATH SYNDROME CONTROL ACT |

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that |
|
WHEREAS, Sudden Oak Death is a virulent and adaptive disease decimating oak populations, infecting unrelated plant species and thriving in varied climates and environments; |
|
WHEREAS, Sudden Oak Death has infected San Mateo and twelve other California counties-Alameda, Contra Costa, Humbolt, Marin, Mendocino, Monterey, Napa, Santa Clara, Santa Cruz, Solano and Sonoma; |
|
WHEREAS, San Mateo County is currently under a quarantine of oak and other plant products that can carry the Sudden Oak Death fungus; |
|
WHEREAS, continuing federal and state funds are needed to combat Sudden Oak Death with continuing research, education, eradication and management; |
|
WHEREAS, H.R. 2144 (Woolsey, D-CA), in its current form, would provide over $70 million over five years for research, education, eradication and management of Sudden Oak Death; |
|
WHEREAS, support of H.R. 2144 aligns with the County's commitment to preserve our natural environment and sow the seeds of our future prosperity; and |
|
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by adoption of this resolution hereby supports H.R. 2144 and urges is passage. |
