BOARD MEETING DATE: |
December 3, 2002 | ||
TO: |
Honorable Board of Supervisors
FROM: |
Neil R. Cullen, Director of Public Works
SUBJECT: |
Limited Parking Zones on Hurlingame Avenue and a Loading Zone on San Mateo Avenue - Redwood City Area
Recommendation | |||
Adopt ordinances establishing:
1. |
two one (1)-hour limited parking zones on a portion of Hurlingame Avenue, County Road No. 741; and
2. |
A loading zone on San Mateo Avenue, County Road No. 648.
Key Facts | |||
The California Vehicle Code provides that local agencies can establish limited parking and loading zones on streets under the agencies jurisdiction.
Staff has confirmed that the loading zone and limited parking zones are justified.
Discussion | |||
Mr. Noe Erazo owner of High Quality Custom Cabinetry, Inc., on the corner of San Mateo Avenue and Hurlingame Avenue, requested that a loading zone be established on San Mateo Avenue adjacent to his business's service entrance to facilitate loading and unloading material; and that a one (1) hour limited parking zone be established on Hurlingame Avenue at his business's main entrance in order to help insure that parking is available for his customers.
Mr. Ken Montalvo, owner of Group Specialist Mercedes Repair, at 421 Hurlingame Avenue, has also experienced a lack of short-term parking for his customers and has also requested a limited parking zone. Vehicles are currently being parked for extended periods of time, up to three (3) days, in the parking spaces adjacent to these businesses.
We do not believe that there will be an appreciable impact on the overall parking in the area as there are sufficient parking spaces available that can still be used for long-term parking.
Vision Alignment | |||
We believe our recommendations are consistent with the Shared Commitment to be a "responsive, effective and collaborative government," and also believe that establishing these zones provides for the appropriate use of the public right-of-way adjacent to these businesses.
Fiscal Impact | |||
The estimated cost of the installation of the signs and markings of the loading and parking zones is $800 and is proposed to be financed with Road Funds. There is no impact to the General Fund.
A form of ordinance has been approved by County Counsel. |
