The Coyote Point Yacht Club was established in 1941 and has a long collaborative relationship with the County beginning with the construction of the Marina in the early 1940s. The County drove the first pilings and built the landings and gangways; the Club members cobbled together the fingers of the docks to form the berths. This early public/private partnership has endured and prospered to the benefit of both the County, the Club, and, ultimately the boaters. The County and Club have a lease agreement, which expires in 2011. The lease agreement provides that the Yacht Club may make improvements consistent with the permissible uses of the lease if such improvements are approved by the County. The proposed improvements are consistent with the permissible uses of the property as a yacht club.
The Club would like to improve an existing fenced yard that's part of the leased area. It is used for storage of small boats, trailers and other equipment but it floods during the winter rains because of drainage problems.
The Club's facility is used by private individuals and those who rent it for meetings and social gatherings. The Club wishes to improve the grounds within the fenced yard area to create an outdoor gathering place as an added amenity for its users. The Club will fund the proposed Grounds Improvement project and will secure all necessary permits and approvals. |
The Parks and Recreation Commission has recommended approval of the project. Board approval is required.
The Club approached County staff a little more than a year ago to discuss improving the yard to create a gathering place. Improvements proposed include a handicapped-accessible deck, seating, lighting, barbecue area, horseshoe pits and landscaping. Some storage will be retained. The Club had an architectural firm from Palo Alto, R. R. Griffiths, draft several plans and revisions and the final design. Key Parks' staff, including the Senior Planner, provided guidance on the final design, which includes a plan for grading and drainage improvements, a lighting plan, and which addresses ADA accessibility, amenities placement, recycling plan, dimensioned plans and all details of construction. |
