Employee of the Month for February 2003

Recommendation

Honor Merry Maddux as Employee of the Month for February 2003 and authorize the President of the Board to sign the commendation.

Background

The Employee of the Month program was established in December 1984 to recognize and honor County employees who consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of performance.

Our Employee of the Month for February 2003 is Merry Maddux, Lead Imaging Specialist at the San Mateo Medical Center.

Discussion

A County employee for over 22 years, Merry is the lead expert in sonography. Not only does Merry perform ultrasound examinations, but she also provides direction, training and work review of Imaging Specialists and Radiologic Technicians in specialty area procedures.

Merry was nominated by supervisors and colleagues alike. Dr. David Marcus credits Merry for her "knowledge base and her very high skill level which allows her to excel in her demanding, difficult chosen field." Merry sees an enormous number of patients each day and often comes in before the department opens, stays late, and calls in on her days off.

Despite Merry's workload and the stress of her job, Merry remains cheerful and pleasant. Merry's compassion, empathy and general concern for her patients set Merry apart. Her dedication to her job and to her patients at the San Mateo Medical Center is laudable.

Our County is fortunate to have Merry Maddux as one of its outstanding employees.
