SUBJECT:

Traffic Signal at the Intersection of Edgewood Road and Cordilleras Road (West) - Redwood City Area

 

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution awarding and authorizing execution of a contract for the installation of a traffic actuated signal at the intersection of Edgewood Road and Cordilleras Road (West).

 

Previous Board Action

Adopted Resolution No. 065704 on December 3, 2002, adopting plans and specifications, determining prevailing wage scales, and calling for sealed proposals for the above referenced project.

 

Discussion

On January 7, 2003, bids were accepted for this project and subsequently referred to this office for checking and recommendation. The bids have been checked and the bid of:

at $74,349.24 was the lowest bid received.

 

The Engineer's estimate was $110,000. A summary of the bids received is as follows:

We have also reviewed the contract documents and have determined that the Affirmative Action program of Mike Brown Electric Co. is in accordance with the current Affirmative Action Guidelines.

 

Vision Alignment

We believe our recommendation is consistent with Goal Number 7, "maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors" of the Shared Vision Commitment to "ensure basic health and safety for all," as the installation will improve the safety for motorists turning onto Edgewood without compromising the safety of other motorists.

 

Fiscal Impact

The total overall estimated cost of the project, including construction and contingencies is $82,000, which includes a ten percent (10%) contingency as the work is bid on a unit price basis.

 

There is no impact to the General Fund.

 

A form of resolution has been approved by County Counsel.
