RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF ASSEMBLY BILL 51 (SIMITIAN) GENERAL PLANS TO ADDRESS THE DISTRIBUTION OF CHILD CARE FACILITIES |

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that |

WHEREAS, 63% of San Mateo County families with children between 0 to 5 years of age and 69% of families with children between 6-13 years of age have parents that both work; |
|
WHEREAS, San Mateo County has approximately 26,000 child care spaces in centers and licensed facilities, but over 100,000 children in need of child care; |
|
WHEREAS, the San Mateo County Housing Element Task Force, which is currently updating the County's Housing Element, recently voted to include policies dealing with child care into the new Housing Element; |
|
WHEREAS, Assembly Bill 51 (Simitian) would require the land use portion of the general plan, upon adoption or revision of a city or county's general plan on or after January 1, 2005, to address the distribution of child care facilities; and |
|
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports Assembly Bill 51 (Simitian). |
