RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CONTROLLER TO PAY
NON-CONTRACT PHYSICIANS

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary to provide emergency coverage for gastroenterology, neurosurgery, dental surgery, surgical assists and pediatric-on-call when contracted-service providers are unavailable; and

 

WHEREAS, on August 6, 2002, your Board approved a Resolution No. 65479 authorizing the Controller to pay an amount not to exceed $70,000 for the period February 1, 2002 through March 31, 2003, all on-call specialists, including but not limited to gastroenterologists, neurosurgeons, and dental surgeons who provide emergency backup when no other medical coverage is available, at 60% of their billed inpatient charges and 50% of their billed outpatient charges, and payment to on-call pediatricians at lesser of the Physicians’ billed charges or the prevailing Medicare Participating Fee Schedule for San Mateo County; and

 

WHEREAS, it is necessary to increase the maximum by $70,000 to a maximum of $140,000 and to extend the term by three months making the new term February 1, 2002 through June 30, 2003; and

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that effective February 1, 2002 through June 30, 2003, payments to non-contract physicians will not exceed $140,000; On-call specialists, including but not limited to gastroenterologists, neurosurgeons, and dental surgeons who provide emergency backup when no other medical coverage is available will be paid at 60% of their billed inpatient charges and 50% of their billed outpatient charges; Surgical assists will be paid at the prevailing Medicare Participating Fee Schedule; On-call pediatricians shall be paid the lesser of the physicians’ billed charges or the prevailing Medicare Participating Fee Schedule for San Mateo County. All charges will be approved by the Chief Financial Officer of the San Mateo Medical Center.
