BOARD MEETING DATE:

TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Neil R. Cullen, Director of Public Works

SUBJECT:

Reroofing of Various County Facilities
(Projects No. P8G01, P8L01, & P8X01)

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution adopting plans and specifications, determining prevailing wage scales, and calling for sealed proposals to replace major sections of the roofs on the Hall of Justice, North Courts, and 455 County Center (County Office Building).

Key Facts

Major sections of the roofs at all three facilities are approximately 20 years old, have reached the end of their economic life and are beginning to leak.

Discussion

The proposed project will remove deteriorated sections of the roofs on the three facilities, and replace them with a cold applied built-up roof system to avoid the odors and associated complaints with hot asphalt roof applications. This has been our preferred method of roof replacement at other County facilities.

Vision Alignment

We believe our recommendation is consistent with the Shared Commitment to ensure basic health and safety for all, and Goal Number 21, "County employees understand, support and integrate the County vision and goals into their delivery of services" as it will improve the County facility for the benefit of both the employees that provide public services and for the public that we serve.

Fiscal Impact

The work is estimated to cost $390,000. These projects were included in the 2002-2003 Capital Projects Budget and are being financed with Courthouse Construction funds and the five percent (5%) surcharge on facilities fees.

A form of resolution has been approved by County Counsel.
