RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL 20 (SHER) REGARDING HAZARDOUS ELECTRONIC WASTE RECOVERY, REUSE, AND RECYCLING

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, hazardous electronic waste is a growing problem throughout California, including San Mateo County, where hundreds of tons of electronic waste are recycled annually; and

WHEREAS, SB 20 (Sher) would require manufacturers of products that can become hazardous electronic waste to develop and implement an electronic waste recovery program that is cost-free and convenient for consumers to recycle such devices; and

WHEREAS, support of SB 20 (Sher) furthers the County's Visioning 2010 commitment to preserve our natural environment and supports Goal #14 to preserve and enhance our important natural resources through environmental stewardship;

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports Senate Bill 20 (Sher) regarding hazardous electronic waste recovery, reuse, and recycling.
