Recommendation |
Adopt a resolution authorizing the President of the Board to execute an agreement with Ronald Greenwald, M.D. |

Background |
San Mateo County is responsible for providing necessary medical care to its medically indigent population. This care includes professional neurosurgery services. Ronald Greenwald, M.D. will provide professional neurosurgery services including the management and supervision of those services. |

For the past year, Ronald Greenwald, M.D. has provided these services as a Contractor for the San Mateo Medical Center. |

Discussion |
Under this two-year agreement, Dr. Ronald Greenwald, M.D. will provide an increased level of service from his previous contract with the San Mateo Medical Center. |

Neurosurgery services are provided under the direction of the Medical Director of San Mateo Medical Center. Monitoring and evaluation of the quality of services provided by contractor are accomplished through peer review by the Quality Assurance Committee and the Executive Committee of the medical staff. |

Vision Alignment |
This agreement keeps the commitment to Ensure Basic Health and Safety for All and goal number 5: Provide residents access to healthcare and preventive care. The Agreement contributes to this commitment and goal by continuing to provide neurosurgery services to county patients. |

Fiscal Impact |
The term of the agreement is July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2005. This agreement pays Ronald Greenwald, M.D. a maximum amount of $562,820 over the term of the agreement. Funding is included in San Mateo Medical Center's FY2003-04 Adopted Budget and will be included in FY2004-05 Budget Request. |
