Resolution in Support of the Bay Area Air Quality Management District’s “Leading the Way to Attainment: The Clean Air Consortium” Program

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that
|
|
WHEREAS, there has been increased awareness and concern over the last decade about pollution generated from non-road related mobile sources such as lawn and garden equipment; and
|
|
WHEREAS, research has shown that equipment with small gasoline combustion engines is a major contributor to air pollution in the Bay Area and throughout the United States; and
|
|
WHREAS, reducing or changing procedures that reduce air pollution is important in order to meet federal air standards and especially important on days that are identified by the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD) as “Spare the Air” days; and
|
|
WHEREAS, unhealthy air exacerbates asthmatic conditions, and is at threat to children, seniors, pregnant women and exercising adults; and
|
|
WHEREAS, reducing air pollution is a shared responsibility, requiring the participation of all communities and their community members; and
|
|
WHEREAS, recently the BAAQMD initiated a program - Leading the Way to Attainment: The Clean Air Consortium - which relies on public agencies such as San Mateo County, to lead the way in reducing air pollution by publicizing the actions the County is taking to reduce air pollution; and
|
|
WHERESAS, there has been presented to this Board a recommendation to support the BAAQMD’s Leading the Way to Attainment: The Clean Air Consortium Program; and
|
|
WHEREAS, this Board has reviewed and considered said recommendation.

|
NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED that this Board of Supervisors:
|
|
1.
|
supports and will participate in the BAAQMD’s Leading the Way to Attainment: The Clean Air Consortium Program; and
|
|
2.
|
authorizes County Departments to execute the BAAQMD’s Clean Air Consortium Voluntary Agreement, a copy of which is attached hereto as Exhibit “A.”
