RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTION OF A LEASE BETWEEN SHELTER NETWORK OF SAN MATEO COUNTY AND THE COUNTY OF SAN MATEO OF THE BUILDING AT 1580 MAPLE STREET, REDWOOD CITY
(LEASE NO. 5299)

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, since 1998, Shelter Network of San Mateo County has operated a transitional and emergency shelter for homeless men and women currently known as the “Maple Street Shelter,” in the County Property located at 1580 Maple Street, Redwood City; and

WHEREAS, on May 6, 2003, the Board of Supervisors approved Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funding from HUD for FY 2003-04, which included funding to enable year-round operation of the facility by Shelter Network as an emergency shelter and transitional housing facility; and

WHEREAS, the transitional facility includes a work hostel component including case management, which is designed to increase the self-sufficiency of the occupants as they pursue their goals of attaining permanent housing; and

WHEREAS, in order to apply for and receive HUD and other supplemental operation funding, Shelter Network of San Mateo County needs to establish site control of the Redwood City facility through the operation of a facility lease agreement; and

    WHEREAS, the County of San Mateo wishes to continue to support Shelter Network of San Mateo County’s effort, which is consistent with the health and welfare of the residents of the County of San Mateo,

WHEREAS, there has been presented to this Board of Supervisors for its consideration and acceptance a Lease of real property, reference to which is hereby made for further particulars, whereby the Shelter Network of San Mateo County shall lease from the County of San Mateo that certain building at 1580 Maple Street, Redwood City in accordance with the terms and conditions contained in said agreement, and

WHEREAS, said Lease provides for the County to provide in-kind rent, valued at approximately $99,000 annually, as well as janitorial and laundry services for the one year term of the lease; and

WHEREAS, this Board has been presented with a Lease and said Board has examined and approved same as to both form and content and desires to enter into same.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED THAT the President of this Board of Supervisors be, and is hereby, authorized and directed to d execute said Lease for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of this Board shall attest the President’s signature thereto.

IT IS FURTHER DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the Assistant County Manager is hereby authorized to accept or execute on behalf of the County, any and all written notices and documents in connection with the Lease including, but not limited to, termination of the agreement under the terms set forth therein.
