RESOLUTION SPECIFYING THE

RESPONSIBILITIES AND MEMBERSHIP OF THE

AGRICULTURAL ADVISORY COMMITTEE

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that:

 

WHEREAS, this Board of Supervisors has previously created the Agricultural Advisory Committee, whose purpose is to actively assist in the preservation of agriculture on the coastside by advise and recommendations to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors, and;

 

WHEREAS, the Agricultural Advisory Committee is authorized by Section 6362 of the County Zoning Regulations, and;

 

WHEREAS, this Board wishes to decrease the size of the Agricultural Advisory Committee from twenty (20) members (sixteen of whom are voting members), to fifteen (15) members (eleven of whom are voting members), and;

 

WHEREAS, this Board now wishes to clarify the membership and the functioning of the Agricultural Advisory Committee;

 

NOW, THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED as follows:

 

1. This Board hereby confirms the creation of the Agricultural Advisory Committee, whose purpose is to actively assist in the preservation of agriculture on the coastside by providing advice and recommendations to the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisors.

 

2. The voting members of the Agricultural Advisory Committee shall be appointed by the Board of Supervisors.

 

3. Members appointed by the Board of Supervisors shall serve terms of four years, which shall begin on October 1 of the year of appointment and end on September 30, four years thereafter. Upon the conclusion of a term, an appointed member may be reappointed subject to a maximum of twelve years of full terms. The twelve year limit does not include partial terms to which members may be appointed at the beginning of their service, or holdover service caused by delay in appointing a replacement at the end of a member's service.

 

4. "Non-voting members" are those who serve by virtue of their public office, other specifically designated office, or representation of a specific agency. Non-voting members' terms shall be for the term of their office, or for the term of their designation by the agency they represent.

 

5. The membership shall include a total of fifteen (15) members, which total includes eleven (11) voting members and four (4) non-voting members, as follows:

 

Voting members

 

A.

Seven (7) farmer/growers,

B.

One (1) agricultural business representative,

C.

One (1) conservationist, and

D.

Two (2) public members.

Non-voting members

 

The following or their designees:

 

A.

The County Agricultural Commissioner,

B.

County Director, UC Cooperative Extension,

C.

The Executive Director of the San Mateo County Farm Bureau, and

D.

The Executive Director of the San Mateo County Resource Conservation District.

   

6. The Agricultural Advisory Committee will comply with all standing rules for County boards, commissions and advisory committees that are established by the Board of Supervisors.

 

7. The Agricultural Advisory Committee shall be staffed by the San Mateo County Environmental Services Agency.
