Resolution Approving the Procedures for Determining if Speed Humps/Dips Should be Installed, and Fees Associated with the Installation of a Speed Humps/Dips

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works (Department) developed Procedures for the Installation of Speed Humps/Dips on County Maintained Roads (Procedures); and

 

WHEREAS, the Department sent copies of the Procedures to the three advisory councils to this Board, to homeowners associations and to individuals who previously requested the installation of speed control devices; and

 

WHEREAS, based on the responses received, the Department has revised the Procedures to address concerns expressed by those commenting on the Procedures; and

 

WHEREAS, the Director of Public Works has recommended that the Procedures as revised be adopted by this Board and that a fee be established to offset the cost of evaluating those streets where speed humps/dips are recommended to be installed; and

 

WHEREAS, this Board has considered the revised Procedures and the recommendation of the Director of Public Works.

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that:

 

1)

The "Procedures for the Installation of Speed Humps/Dips on County Maintained Roads" dated October 1, 2003, as presented to the Board are hereby adopted as the procedures to be used to determine if speed humps/dips are to be installed on County maintained roads.

   

2)

The Director of Public Works shall collect a fee of Four Hundred Dollars ($400) from the applicant(s) who request a speed hump/dip if the hump/dip is determined to be warranted based on the Procedures hereby adopted, and prior to the construction of said hump/dip.

   

3)

The Director of Public Works is hereby authorized and directed to implement the Procedures as hereby adopted by contacting the three advisory councils to this Board, known active homeowners associations and persons who in the past year have requested that speed humps/dips be considered in their neighborhood.
