Background

On June 26, 2001, your Board approved an Agreement with Golden State Services to provide laundry and linen services to San Mateo Medical Center. The term of the agreement is July 1, 2001 to June 30, 2004, with a maximum amount of $1,071,850.

Discussion

In August 2003, San Mateo Medical Center acquired Burlingame Healthcare Center. The agreement with Golden State Services is being amended to include linen/laundry management services to Burlingame Healthcare Center. Golden State Services will process 800,000 pounds of soiled linen at BHC. The cost per pound is 0.3195 for a maximum of $256,000 per year. Golden State will provide four fulltime employees at BHC to pickup and deliver the linens to all the units and to process personal laundry for all the residents at BHC. The cost to provide this services is $142,536 per year.

This amendment also incorporates equal benefits language and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) language to the agreement.

County Counsel and Risk Management have reviewed and approved this amendment.

Vision Alignment

This Contract keeps the commitment to Responsive, effective and collaborative government and goal number 20: government decisions are based on careful consideration of future impact, rather than temporary relief or immediate gain. The agreement contributes to this commitment by providing laundry and linen services to San Mateo Medical Center and to Burlingame Healthcare Center.`

Fiscal Impact

The term of this agreement remains the same, July 1, 2001 through June 30, 2004. This Amendment increases the maximum amount of the agreement by $398,536, from $1,071,850 to $1,470,386. Funds are included in San Mateo Medical Center's FY2003-04 Adopted Budget.
