Brian Zamora, Director of Public Health and Environmental Protection

SUBJECT:

Cash Donation from National Technical Services Association

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution accepting a cash donation from the National Technical Services Association.

Background

California Children's Services (CCS) is a statewide program that treats children with certain physical limitations and chronic health conditions or diseases. The San Mateo County CCS program authorizes and pays for specific medical services and equipment provided by CCS-approved specialists. The program is funded with state, county, and federal tax monies, along with some fees paid by parents.

This donation was given to CCS by the National Technical Services Association (NTSA). A CCS-eligible child who attends the Medical Therapy Unit (MTU) has a parent who is a member of this organization.

Discussion

This cash donation is intended to be used to augment the CCS treatment fund, which at this time of economic uncertainty, is greatly needed to continue to help families in our community that have children afflicted by these serious disabilities and diseases. CCS provides such equipment as manual and power wheelchairs as well as a wide range of other medical equipment.

Vision Alignment

The donation given by the NTSA keeps the commitment of ensuring basic health and safety for all and goal number 8: help vulnerable people - the aged, disabled, mentally ill, at-risk youth and others - achieve a better quality of life. The donation contributes to this commitment and goal by augmenting CCS treatment funds.

Fiscal Impact

The total amount of the donation given by the NTSA is $3,374.18. This donation will be incorporated into the approved FY 2003-04 budget through the year-end ATR to offset part of the cost of medical equipment. There is no net County cost.
