Twenty Minute Parking Zones on Middlefield Road between 6th and
Adopt an ordinance establishing a (20) twenty-minute parking zone on Middlefield Road (County Road No. 29) between 6th and 7th Avenues.
The California Vehicle Code provides that local agencies can establish limited parking and loading zones on streets under the agencies' jurisdiction.
The limited parking zone has been requested to provide short-term parking opportunities on this block of Middlefield Road.
The owner of a jewelry store located at 3262 and 3266 Middlefield Road has requested that two 20-minute limited parking spaces be placed in front of her business to provide short-term parking for her customers. There are very limited short-term parking opportunities on this block of Middlefield Road as employees of adjoining businesses and others tend to park their vehicles in the same parking space all day.
We are recommending that the limited time parking zones be established to provide a mix of both short- and long-term parking opportunities in the area.
We believe our recommendations are consistent with the Shared Commitment to be a "responsive, effective and collaborative government," and also believe that establishing these zones provided for the appropriate use of the public right-of-way adjacent to this business.
The estimated cost of installing these signs and markings is estimated to be $500, which is proposed to be financed with Road Funds. There is no impact to the General Fund.
A form of ordinance has been approved by County Counsel.
