RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 56-THE BUDGET ACCOUNTABILITY ACT OF 2004

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, due, in part to the difficulty of securing a two-thirds vote, the State Legislature typically approves the state budget well beyond the Constitutional deadline of June 30; and

WHEREAS, this delay negatively impacts San Mateo County and requires the County to revise the budget months after the fiscal year has begun; and

WHEREAS, Proposition 56 would reduce from two-thirds to 55% the vote requirement needed to approve the state budget and would provide other incentives for passing the state budget on time; and

WHEREAS, support of Proposition 56 furthers San Mateo County's Visioning 2010 commitment to provide responsive, effective and collaborative government and work toward Goal #20-to ensure that government decisions are based on careful consideration of future impact, rather than temporary relief or immediate gain;

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports Proposition 56-The Budget Accountability Act of 2004.
