BOARD MEETING DATE:

TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

Neil R. Cullen, Director of Public Works

SUBJECT:

Reroofing of the Southern Section of the Roof at the North Courts, 1050 Old Mission Road, South San Francisco (Project No. P8L02)

Recommendation

Adopt a resolution adopting plans and specifications, determining prevailing wage scales, and calling for sealed proposals to replace the southern section of the roof at the North Courts.

Key Facts

The northern section of the roof was replaced earlier this fiscal year as a 2002-2003 capital project. The southern section of the roof is approximately 20 years old, has reached the end of its economic life and needs to be replaced.

Discussion

The proposed project will remove the southern section of the roof and replace it with a cold applied built-up roof system to avoid the odors and associated complaints with hot asphalt roof applications. This has been the preferred method of roof replacement at other County facilities in order to limit the inconvenience and reduce the potential for complaints by building occupants while a roof is being replaced.

Vision Alignment

We believe our recommendation is consistent with the Shared Commitment to ensure basic health and safety for all, and Goal Number 7, "maintain and enhance the public safety of all residents and visitors" as the reroofing project will help sustain the building for the benefit of both the employees and public that use this facility.

Fiscal Impact

The work is estimated to cost $150,000. This project is included in the 2003-2004 Capital Projects Budget and is being financed with Courthouse Construction funds.

There is no impact to the General Fund.

A form of resolution has been approved by County Counsel.
