RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ACT, AN INITIATIVE TO APPEAR ON THE NOVEMBER 2004 BALLOT |

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that |

WHEREAS, there is an urgent need for mental health services for children, adults, and older adults throughout the state of California and the County of San Mateo, and |
|
WHEREAS, current funding levels for mental health services do not meet the existing need, despite tremendous local support; and |
|
WHEREAS, the Mental Health Services Act, if approved by voters, would create a funding mechanism that would generate approximately $600 million annually for mental health services; and |
|
WHEREAS, support of the Mental Health Services Act would further the County's Vision 2010 commitment to ensure basic health and safety for all and would support Goals # 5 and 8 to provide access to health care and preventative care and to help vulnerable people, including the mentally ill, achieve a better quality of life; |

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports the Mental Health Services Act. |
