TO:

Honorable Board of Supervisors

FROM:

John Maltbie, County Manager

SUBJECT:

Employee of the Month for June 2004

Recommendation

Honor Bill Kirkpatrick as Employee of the Month for June 2004 and authorize the President of the Board to sign the commendation.

Background

The Employee of the Month program was established in December 1984 to recognize and honor County employees who consistently demonstrate an outstanding level of performance.

Our Employee of the Month for June 2004 is Bill Kirkpatrick, Shelter Care Counselor II, in the Human Services Agency.

Discussion

Bill Kirkpatrick has worked at the Receiving Home for over 20 years. In his position he has worked as a Counselor with the County's most traumatized abused and neglected adolescents. He has been a pillar of strength during times of crisis, especially at 2:00 a.m., when children are brought in, upset and hurt, or when disruptive youth have returned to the Receiving Home in the middle of the night under the influence, and threatening others.

In the past years, Bill has gone one step further in actively soliciting funds for the youth. He was instrumental in obtaining two grants for $1,500 and $1,000 from Bay Meadows Foundation, two grants for $2,500 and $1,000 from the Friends of Kids and a grant for $2,400 from Morton Financial. The funds have been used for picnic tables, recreation equipment, trips to the snow and other events. The residents and staff at the Receiving Home appreciate Bill's hard work, professionalism and dedication.

Our County is fortunate to have Bill Kirkpatrick as one of its outstanding employees.
