2004 CSAC Challenge Award Nominations

 

RECOMMENDATION:

Recommendation: Approve 2004 CSAC Challenge Award Endorsement Letter

 

BACKGROUND:

The California State Association of Counties (CSAC) Challenge Awards program designed to recognize the innovation and creative spirit of California county governments has issued a call for 2004 entries. This awards program recognizes county government efforts to find new and effective ways of providing programs and services. The 2004 CSAC Challenge Awards will be presented at the Association's Annual Meeting in San Diego, November 16 through 19, 2004.

 

Challenge Award Criteria:

A panel of public and private sector officials evaluates the entries subject to the following criteria:

    _ Statement of the problem and solution;

    _ Cost-effectiveness of the program

    _ Long-term impact on the community;

    _ Innovation, resourcefulness, vision, uniqueness and risk-taking;

    _ Replicability; and

Conformance and compliance with application instructions.

A complete entry must include an endorsement letter authorizing the entry by the Board of Supervisors.

 

2004 San Mateo County Entries

While there are numerous County programs and services worthy of this award, the following five programs are recommended for your approval for the 2004 CSAC Challenge Award competition:

1. Building for the Future: Sustainable Building Policy/Board of Supervisor;

2. Community Law Night/Board of Supervisors/Courts

3. Fatherhood Collaborative/Board of Supervisors

4. Tower House/Human Services Agency

5. Juvenile Assessment Center/Human Services Agency/Courts/Probation/Health Services

Attached for your approval is an endorsement letter for the above County programs.
