RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING ACCEPTANCE OF AN INCREASE TO THE GRANT AWARD FROM THE SCICLONE PHARMACEUTICALS, INC. AND EXECUTION OF AN AMENDMENT TO THE AGREEMENT WITH SCICLONE PHARMACEUTICALS, INC.

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, the Clinical Trials and Research Unit of the San Mateo County Health Center was established by the Health Services Agency in 2000 in order to provide a mechanism and infrastructure for the conduct of clinical treatment trials and medical or psychosocial research projects for the benefit of the residents of San Mateo County; and

WHEREAS, a preliminary assessment by the Unit staff identified Hepatitis C as a problem affecting many of the County's patients with HIV and the Unit discovered that patients are not responding to the current drug treatments; and

WHEREAS, August 5, 2003, your Board accepted a grant award from SciClone Pharmaceuticals, Inc. in the amount of $101,500 and approved an agreement to participate in a Multicenter Double-Blinded Study for patients with compensated cirrhosis due to chronic Hepatitis C; and

WHEREAS, in May 2004, SciClone Pharmaceuticals, Inc. notified San Mateo Medical Center that the grant award is being increased by $10,000, from $101,500 to $111,500; and

WHEREAS, this Board has been presented with the form of the amendment to the agreement and desires to enter into the amendment.

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the President of this Board of Supervisors be, and is hereby authorized and directed to accept the increase to the award and to execute said Amendment to the Agreement for and on behalf of the County of San Mateo, and the Clerk of this Board shall attest the President's signatures thereto.
