RESOLUTION IN OPPOSITION TO H.R. 2671 REGARDING THE CLEAR LAW ENFORCEMENT FOR CRIMINAL ALIEN REMOVAL (CLEAR) ACT

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

 

WHEREAS, H.R. 2671 would require, among other things, that states and local governments report information about apprehended illegal aliens; and

 

WHEREAS, the National Association of Counties (NACO) opposes H.R. 2671 on grounds including concerns that requirements including reporting information would not be adequately reimbursed; and

 

WHEREAS, H.R. 2671 could have the effect of undermining the confidence of people in reporting crimes for fear of being reported as an illegal immigrants and, in turn, negatively impact the effectiveness of local law enforcement in ensuring the public safety; and

 

WHEREAS, passage of H.R. 2671 would threaten San Mateo County’s Vision 2010 commitment to ensure basic health and safety for all;

 

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby opposes H.R. 2671, the Clear Law Enforcement for Criminal Alien Removal Act.
