Recommended Revision to the Salary Ordinance

Recommendation

Adopt an ordinance amending the salary ordinance and accept the report on the total number of positions in the County.

 

Summary

The salary ordinance changes herein represent:

reclassifying five positions, and

the conversion of one position from classified to unclassified status.

These actions were approved for study by the County Manager's Office.

Fiscal Impact

The reclassification action represents a monthly salary and benefits cost of $4350 or an annual cost of $52,200.

This amendment has been reviewed by the County Counsel’s Office.

ORGANIZATION 30000 SHERIFF’S OFFICE

Action A:

Reclassify: Four positions of E372S, Legal Office Assistant series

Biweekly Salary: $1318.40 - 1737.60

Approximate Monthly Salary: $2857 - 3765

To: Four positions of E375, Legal Office Specialist

Biweekly Salary: $1589.60 - 1987.20

Approximate Monthly Salary: $3444 - 4306

Explanation:

This is the reclassification of two filled and two vacant positions of Legal Office Assistant to the classification of Legal Office Specialist. The Jail Intake unit of the Sheriff’s Office has changed their staffing assignments to provide for better off-hours coverage as well as improve staff flexibility. This change has resulted in employees in these two different classifications performing the same work. And the work is more appropriately classified in the Legal Office Specialist category. This action represents a monthly salary and benefits cost of $2813 based on filling the position at the top step of the range. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.

Change: One position of D192, Sheriff’s Captain

Biweekly Salary: $3807.20 - 4759.20

Approximate Monthly Salary: $8250 - 10,312

From: Classified to unclassified status

Same salary range

Explanation:

This is the conversion of one Sheriff’s Captain position from classified to unclassified status. This position has been designated by the Sheriff as unclassified as authorized by the County Charter. This action represents no change in monthly salary and benefits costs. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.

ORGANIZATION 48300 PUBLIC WORKS TRANSPORTATION SERVICES

Action:

Reclassify: One position of B242, Administrative Services Manager I -unclassified

Biweekly Salary: $2769.60 - 3461.60

Approximate Monthly Salary: $6001 - 7501

To: One position of B211, Transportation Systems Coordinator -unclassified

Biweekly Salary: $3205.60 - 4007.20

Approximate Monthly Salary: $6946 - 8683

Explanation:

This is an upward reclassification of one currently filled position of Administrative Services Manager I - unclassified to the classification of Transportation Systems Coordinator - unclassified. This action will respond to the needs to provide increased level of support to the City/County Association of Governments (C/CAG) and, as such, the duties of the position are more complex and more appropriately represented by the Transportation Systems Coordinator classification. The action represents a monthly salary and benefits cost of $1537 based on filling the position at the top step of the range. There is no change in the total number of authorized positions.
