RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 69 REGARDING DNA SAMPLES, COLLECTION, DATABASES, AND FUNDING

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, Proposition 69, which will appear before voters during the November 2004 general election, expands DNA collection to all convicted adult and juvenile felons, adults and juveniles convicted of non-felony sex offenses or arson, and adults and juveniles arrested for or charged with felony sex offenses, murder, or voluntary manslaughter; and

WHEREAS, Proposition 69 would fund the expanded collection requirements through an increase in penalties, of which a portion would be dedicated to local governments; and

WHEREAS, the DNA database is an effective way to identify criminals as well as exonerate the innocent; and

WHEREAS, support of Proposition 67 furthers the County’s Visioning 2010 commitment to ensure basic health and safety for all and supports its goal to maintain and enhance the public safety for all residents and visitors;

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports Proposition 69.
