RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF PROPOSITION 72 REGARDING HEALTH CARE COVERAGE REQUIREMENTS

______________________________________________________________

RESOLVED, by the Board of Supervisors of the County of San Mateo, State of California, that

WHEREAS, Proposition 72, which will appear before voters during the November 2004 general election, is a referendum on SB 2 (Burton, 2003) which would require many employers to pay at least 80% of the health care coverage costs for employees that work more than 100 hours per month; and

WHEREAS, the San Mateo Medical Center provides the clear majority of services to the uninsured in San Mateo County; and

WHEREAS, increasing the number of employees that receive health care could reduce the number of uninsured in San Mateo County; and

WHEREAS, support of Proposition 72 furthers the County’s Visioning 2010 commitment to ensure basic health and safety for all and supports its goal that residents have access to healthcare and preventative care;

NOW THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY DETERMINED AND ORDERED that the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors by the adoption of this resolution hereby supports Proposition 72.
